Ahn Duong maybe be known for her several film credits such as Scent of a Woman and My Best Friend’s Wedding but she has been making waves as one of the creative scene’s most exciting contemporary sculptures. Her numerous sculptures and paintings have graced prominent exhibitions, gaining her a cult following who is always clamoring for Duong’s highly provocative and insightful self portraits.
As one of the creative forces helping to keep the New York City artistic movement active, Duong’s work exemplifies boldness that can only be found in the artist’s whose visions are realized in a medium, without traditional technique coming into play.
Ahn Duong was born in France to a Spanish mother and a Vietnamese father, although now she is primarily based in New York City. This is where most of her works’ exhibitions are held, the latest of which was the one held in the Sonnabend Gallery. Her signature works are her self portraits, which she has described as her way of writing in a diary. It reflects how she feels at a certain moment, thereby cataloguing her life through the power of paint and canvas.
Maybe it’s a fact that there is much passion and emotion put into these paragraphs that makes very appealing to art enthusiasts. This last exhibition would definitely not be the last for the highly prolific Ahn Duong. From her very first exhibit held in 1999, she has regularly presented art collections that provocatively capture the images of her life.
