British architect Norman Foster may be known for the great property projects he has created over the years, but his latest luxury real estate investment is the one making headlines at the moment. Foster shelled out $22.4 million to purchase the Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark and Tisbury in Massachusetts, and he has now earned the distinction of owning a property that has been home to a US president, albeit temporarily.
Blue Heron Farm is one of Martha’s Vineyard’s finest properties but what makes it even more special is the fact that US president Barack Obama and his family have rented the luxury home as their summer getaway for the past three years.
It’s easy to see why Obama and his family have been attracted to the property. Sprawling 28.5 acres in Chilmark and 3.8 acres in Tisbury, Blue Heron Farm looks like something out of a postcard. The splendid gardens and natural beauty surrounding the property provides a relaxing backdrop to the warm summer months, especially for the Obamas who have two young children in the family. Aside from this, there’s also a swimming pool that allows for major fun in the sun. Other outdoor facilities in the property include an equestrian track, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a par-three golf course that must be a relaxing addition for the President and his wife Michelle.
There are two large homes in the luxury real estate property, making it perfect as a getaway for large groups. One interesting structure within Blue Heron Farm, however, is a completely renovated hay barn first built 150 years ago.
